Break out your wrenches, thread seal tape, and replacement valves — it’s time to fix those leaks! Today marks the start of Fix a Leak Week 2013.
The EPA and water agency partners around the country are using this week to spread the word about easy fixes we can all do to stop leaks, cut down on water waste, and save money. If you’ve had a leaky faucet or showerhead or toilet for a while, but you’ve been waiting around for some sign from the heavens that it’s time to fix it, this is as close as you’re going to get.
We hope you’ll take advantage of Fix a Leak Week, but at JouleBug we think any week is a good one for stopping water waste. That’s why created the Drip Doctor badge. You can earn it by fixing two leaks around your house, in either a toilet, a faucet, or a showerhead.
It’s so easy even a blogger can do it! I just bought a replacement fill valve for a leaky toilet, so I’ll be earning the Commode Commander pin in the next couple of days. It’s a $10 part that I can replace in 10 minutes and that will pay for itself in less than a year. But more importantly, from here on out, I can demand that people refer to me by my earned title, “Commode Commander.” No amount of JouleBug points (or water bill savings) can ever capture the true value of that.
